Resonates With Residency (National Gallery Singapore)

The Resonates With Residency is a residency programme that invites local performing artists to respond to works and themes from the Gallery’s long-term and special exhibitions.

Returning with a refreshed format, this cycle of the Resonates With Residency features a cohort of three artists, each commissioned to create a series of multi-disciplinary performances in response to the Gallery's permanent exhibition, Between Declarations and Dreams: Art of Southeast Asia since the 19th Century. Over several months, the artists will draw inspiration from the exhibition's artworks and themes to ideate, innovate, and iterate towards two work-in-progress showcases, leading up to their final performances at Light To Night Singapore 2025.

In her residency, titled A Slow Future Through: A Gentle and Caring Approach to Art Making, Cheryl will explore what it means to prioritise intentionality, compassion and deep “seeing” in life, through the lens of the three works she has chosen. She will consider what we choose to reveal or see in others and ourselves, as well as the potential unseen forces that work against our state of being.
